Lately I have been skipping lunch and just take a solo one late in the day when I need a break. The morning consisted of putting in orders for Jim at Sunday! for some of his guys. Eric Lichtenberger came by around 10:pm to pick up his stuff. (Yes that name sucks as much to type as it does to read.) Lick-10-Burger.
Today I actually went to lunch with Chris and Nuno. I really hadn’t gotten started on the design related when Chris asked, so I figured why not. We didn’t know where Jim was and figured his absence was Wedding related since he and his girl Sharron are quickly approaching the “big day.” When we got back from lunch I walked into some stuff on my desk and then was slightly startled by Jim when he said something to me. (There is a clothing rack now in addition to the wall that separates our zone, so it is harder to look over there.)
Turned out he had taken the train down to SD and ran into a huge ball-up and Alex from Give D gave him a ride back to the office. Visited with Alex for a bit then got through the list of stuff I wanted to do for the day and looked at what I am going to grind on tomorrow.
I love the busy days, they are my favorite. In the past, they used to mean I still had a job, now it just means that progress cannot be slowed. I am reminded everyday of the trials put on countless others in the work world right now and I feel for them. I know first hand what it is like to be jobless and even for a short time, homeless. It is never easy. But you have to be thankful for what you still have and work hard to get back on, or stay on, your feet. I never feel like I am secure anymore, but at least I know I am a little more at ease than in years past.
The above image is what I see if I lift my head up and take a look around to see what’s going on. Which is exactly what I did when I decided to take this picture. I like my position in the office. I feel like a watch guard since I can see all the way up front and I know when to hide or when to go up front and day hello. Unfortunately, when people ignore the signs and think they can just walk straight in and no one else is around, they usually come right up to me.
