I recently took some time to interview Randall Neave about what he has been up to lately, injuries & recoveries, getting punched in the face and how easy it is for him to push his whip around. Check it out.

Randall Neave has been a mainstay on the SBC race team for many years now. He joined as a top expert and worked his way to AA status before injuring himself while training. It took him a few years to fully recover as well as decide what he wanted to do with his racing. A lot changes in BMX in a short time. He has been back to full time for a little over a year now. We thought we would throw out a few questions to get everyone caught up with Randall. Not an easy thing to do!

You have been back to racing for about 15 months now after taking a lengthy break to allow your injuries to heal. What has been your biggest challenge in getting back to being a competitive Pro?

Since I’ve been out the acceleration of the first 7 to 10 pedals has increased. So getting back to the level I was at was a challenge let alone stepping up to the new level.

Has anything changed in racing from before your injury to today?

The gate changed to random, which I have no problem with.  Before I got hurt no one was tap manualing so I had to learn how to do that. I also got a Randy Richardson neck brace, Rick thinks it’s pretty hot.

You have a nice back yard practice track. Do you plan any updates for that?

I would love to but it’s kinda hard since we live in a sandbox, so we have to buy the dirt.  I’ve made a few changes since the last pictures were put up, I’ll send some new ones with this. its working a lot better than last year, and with the Florida races coming up it should be a good time.

Give us a rundown on the G-ride.

‘96 Impala SS, Black on Black…you can call it phantom of the opera.  22’s son…2 david beckhams or a trunk full of kickers..15’s that would be. Some motor mods, air intake, full exhaust, computer program, wires, plugs, upgrade sway bars, rotors and shocks. Just a white honkie trying to roll hard ha.

What’s up with the rookie Kelty giving you a shot to the eye in Columbia?

When you say shot I hope you mean punch…
Last night out we were kickin back havin fun and I thought it would be entertaining for him to punch me in the eye so I could look like a raccoon.  But he Roy Joes Jr’ed me, did a lil stagger but I didn’t fall down.  I lit him up right after. It was a good time and a little something to remember the night by.

Many people don’t realize that you rock some skills off the track as far as freestyle and dirt go. What is your favorite terrain to ride away from BMX racing?

I have a blast riding both trails and park.  I’ve been riding cassleberry trails down here in Orlando a lot lately.  I haven’t been riding park as much as I would like to but I have a new 250L coming so i’ll put it to good use at the park. Racing is a blast but just to be able to ride different terrain is relaxing.

What’s your local crew like and who do you ride with during the week ?

We have a great group of guys down here to ride with. I ride, train and hang out with Vinny Moreira., Bryan Meyer, Juan, Erik Olson, Denis, Kyle B and Josh P. to name a few. we ride my place, vinny’s backyard, Casselberry trails and the tracks of course.

what, if any, program do you use for training?

I train with Bryan Meyer, he is a top notch professional trainer with degrees in PES, HFI, CSCS and NSCAA. Bryan has worked with Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic, Kenard Lang NFL Denver Broncos, Elton Patterson NFL Jacksonville Jaguars, Brian Dawkins NFL Philadelphia Eagles, Travis Henry NFL Denver Broncos. We have combined my training experience and his wealth of knowledge of training and how the body functions, to put together a amazing program. If anyone is interested in a great training program, which is rider specific, you can contact bryan through his email bwill425@hotmail.com

Any Thanks?

Of course have to thanks to you guys  (Rick and Jess) up in Standard country for some of the best products on the market and for the continual support throughout the last 10 years.  Profile racing for providing me with great product and also alienation. Bryan Meyer for all he has done with my training and being a great friend, the tight nit group of friends that i ride and hang out with, you guys know who you are. Erik Olson for taken care of my small bike part orders when i need it, my family for always supporting me and backing me, And Last my beautiful Wife Amanda for always being there, supporting me, understanding the late track night, the tired days of training and really believing in me I Love You Babe.
