A Tribute to the 1960s and early ’70s Akira Toriyama character, Vegeta, who also became a major success with the 1980s+ Dragonball - Dragonball GT franchise
“Sunshine Superman” was a summer of 1966 song written by Scottish import Donovan (Donovan Leitch, whose name is often mistaken under another Donovan [Donavon Frankenreiter of former East Germany, a cutting - edge 1990s+ comedian]*) that included then - Yardbird Jimmy Page on lead guitar and on drums was Bobby Orr, a hockey great famous for winning the National Hockey League Boston Bruins a Stanley Cup in 1970. It was supposed to be about questioning “lady Lolita” Sue Lyon to be Donovan’s girl… it didn’t even last the Summer of Love. It hit #1 in the US and #2 in the UK in December, and was released on the album of the same title. This is the original recording despite rumors that it was classified as two versions - the short version was a radio edit.
*Notice how I spelled Donavon Frankenreiter’s first name correctly compared to Leitch’s
Vegeta
Before Goku, there was Vegeta, the quinessential 1960s and early 1970s Dragonball character before there even was an ongoing Dragonball franchise. Vegeta was a Marvel Comics - licensed manga in the early 1960s and in the fall of 1962, a television anime for 12 seasons until it ended in 1974. On the English - translated television anime, Frank Oz was the original voice of Vegeta. In the live - action Vegeta movies of the ’60s, Italian Jim Azurelli played the title role but was replaced after 1 film by Portugese - Russian Robert Desmond.
