Travis Sex Smith is a bit nuts. I hate to say that, because I don’t want to encourage him, but it’s true. Travis just got back from a filming trip in California where he was working on a new web video for the site. All the footage is being edited right now and the video should be up on the site really soon.
This video is coming a few months late as Travis spent most of the summer recovering from the craziest slam ever. If everyone could please help us talk some sense into Travis and comment that he should not be riding motorcycles we would appreciate it. We love hanging with you Travis and don’t want to see you die! 1. Please explain how you crashed on your motorcycle and how you got to the hospital. Well my riding buddy Dan Gobbo and I were heading up to Penticton late Friday afternoon for a swim. Well I didn’t want to be swimming in the dark so the only thing I could do is ride faster. So I was in the zone just givin’er and I really didn’t feel like slowing down for the three cars coming up on the corner just a head of me so I decided to pass them on a blind inside corner, since I couldn’t see any cars in the oncoming lane I wanted to keep as close to the double solid line (JUST IN CASE!!!) well I was going way faster then I should have been and I couldn’t keep my line so I started to drift into the right line. That’s when I noticed I was going to hit the back of the car in front of me and by the spilt second I notice (BAM!) I am flying through the air upside-down looking back at the car that I just hit. Once I hit the ground it went all black for awhile as I’m getting thrown down the road, Once I stopped rag dolling I started sliding on my left leg and ass, as this is happening I’m looking way up a head of me at this ditch that’s in my path oh shit “I’m thinking”, so I tried standing up, let me tell you, don’t ever try this if your sliding on your ass down the road, it just kicked me up and I started getting tossed down the road again, all of the sudden I feel nothing, (WHAM!) I just hit a rock in the ditch then finally stopped. As I was lying in the ditch I was wondering why I didn’t feel anything I felt awesome, until I leaned up and took a good look a my legs that’s when it hit me, that’s when the pain kicked in, so I ended up hanging out in the rocky ditch for a couple of hours waiting for the ambulance to come. I’m just really lucky to of had a lot of nice people that helped me out.

2. I know your leg was taking forever to heal. How long ago was the crash and is your leg back to normal yet?
Well my crash was on June 4 and I could start bending my knee fully by late July, mid August but my road rash i.e. third degree burns finally just healed up a couple weeks ago and it is now November 28. It took so long because every time I rode I fell on it and ripped it open.
3. How close would you say you came to dying?
Let’s just say the moment I hit the car I didn’t think I was going to be here today.
My friend told me he once read somewhere that only .5 percent of people survive in car crashes in speeds of a 140km, and I was going 230km on a street bike!

4. Did you learn your lesson or do you think you’ll do that again?
Two weeks later I got my ICBC bike write off check, that day I found a new bike in Chilliwack, (a suburb an hour outside of Vancouver) got my friend to drive me out there and I road it home with only one leg. I had to let my other leg hang off the side because I couldn’t bend it up, to put it on the foot peg, most painful hour long ride home and the fact that I was trying to go 200km with one leg on the peg going down the #1. So answer to the question is No!
5. How long did it take you to start riding again after the crash?
Once I could bend my knee I started to slowly get be into BMXing then I went back doing all the same shit on my street bike
6. What else did you get up to last summer?
Not too much just hung out riding with the boys taking it easy, because of the legs of course. But it sucks; I was really looking forward to making a webit With Harrison over the summer.
7. You recently went on a trip to California. Who’d you go with and where exactly did you go?
Oh man! Cali was awesome. Wish I never came home. So Luke Gatien, John Thompson, and I took the longest bus ride of or lives, I believe it was something like 35 hours to get to San Francisco. That’s where we met up with our friends the Gobbo’s, Dan and Andrew. Who had been already there for a week. Then we all went and got a hotel and rode San Francisco all week. That was really good because John Thompson brought his camera “huge props to John cuz this video would have not happened with out him”. It was good, met a bunch of locals, they showed us around, showed us some spots. Met Wolfman, watched him do a crazy wall ride, super nice guy, looking forward to riding with him again. Then we went to Sacramento to ride some skate parks.
8. Are you stoked to see your web video uploaded?
Yeah big time especially because I didn’t think I was going to get to make one this summer. Thanks to JT and his great filming.
9. A lot of people were stoked on your last video. How did it feel to have so many people psyched on your riding?
It pissed me off that people were psyched, now there just going to expect something from me. Haha no I’m joking, it feels good to know that people like your riding and will watch you.
10. You’ve been talking about riding vert a lot lately. Are you hoping to ride vert in the next Olympics?
It’s something I would really like to try. I’ve just never had the opportunity to ride proper vert. well I did once but I was hurt, figures eh! The Olympics is coming up quick so I would have to get my ass in gear, but yeah it’s something I would like to try.
11. We’ve had a bunch of girls email in asking if you had a girlfriend after your last web video. So do you have a girlfriend?
Well why the hell would you be telling me this now geezzz. Yes I’m seeing someone right now.
12. When’s the last time you went drinking with Sam Lowe? What happened?
I’ve never personally gone drinking with Sam Lowe but I’m pretty sure it would be crazy. I was drunk heading to the bourbon one night and as I’m coming up to the front door I see James Steele sitting on a barrier with blood all over his face and a broken nose, I asked him what the fuck happened. First words out of his mouth were, SAM LOWE and I were going shot for shot. Sam won! Editor’s note, (Sam was trying to punch James in the Jaw. Something went wrong and he ended up breaking James’ nose, blood everywhere.)
