Here’s a rarity. Possibly impressed by the BBC’s use of chromakey during the 1970 General Election ABC who
had won a new contract to broadcast to the North and the Midlands 2 years earlier tried to incorporate the technology into their news bulletin.

The secret trials were a complete disaster with the new and old technologies conflicting with each other. This was due to the fact that chromakey was a colour techology while ABC were still in black and white.

The trials were cancelled and the tapes that were made were supposedly wiped. However last year this tape came to light.

The original tape was of very poor quality and had been digitally remastered and includes the ident.
