[5/27] BMX is serious business. Be there.

[5/25] As promised, here’re those additional details, in the form of repeatedly-asked questions and their answers.
Q: Should I enter? Will I be able to enter the day of the event, or do I have to preregister?
A: Can you clear a 25′ double? Can you clear multiple 25′ doubles? If the answers are yes, or you think it may be yes, then go ahead and enter. Otherwise, you probably shouldn’t enter. Preregistration is recommended, but you should be able to enter the day of; I’m pretty sure you can enter on the practice day, too.
Q: Are we actually going to be able to clear these things?
A: Yes. As stated before, the final setup is subject to change, and Ryan, Mat, and Travis are going to get these things set up right. If that means that the jumps are going to be a little bit shorter (or longer) than initially planned, so be it. They’ll work, and they’ll be safe.
Q: Is the media going to be there? How do I get a media pass?
A: Yes, Ride/BMXOnline, Cubby (for Dig), Nip (for Vimby), myself (for SJBMX), and some local TV stations will be there. I think that Fuel TV may be there too, but don’t quote me on that yet. As for the pass, contact me and I’ll try and get you setup, but the deadline was technically last Tuesday.
Q: Is there a spectator fee? Do we have to pay for our wife/girlfriend/dog’s admission if we enter? Is there free food if we enter?
A: General admission’s $15; it’s expensive in these harsh times, but it’s going towards a good cause. If you enter, you get to bring one free guest. Outback is doing the catering for the event, and, yes, the food is included with the entrance fee.

[4/24] Nyquist sent in this video update of the ramp building…
[4/15] Mat sent me a hand-drawn sketch of the course; the thing on the left is, if I remember correctly, a pair of 8′ tall shipping containers stacked atop each other. Keep in mind that this is all preliminary, and that the layout isn’t set in stone yet. Mat says, though, that lips are 8′ wide, and landings are 16′ wide with several feet of deck for safety purposes.

[4/14] The flyer is up, and, yes, you are reading that purse amount correctly. Mat’s already building the ramps, and I’ll hopefully be able to post up a course layout soon. Preregistration isn’t required, but it is recommended; click here to preregister online.

[3/20] I meant to post this up yesterday, but didn’t get around to it; the event has been rescheduled to the end of May for a variety of reasons, most importantly the King Road exit off 680 being closed on the weekend of the 1st and 2nd. Anyway, practice will be on Friday the 29th, and the event will be on Saturday the 30th. Also, the course is now going to be a wood rhythm section, rather than dirt, for reasons related to cost. The layout isn’t finalized yet, but I’ll be posting the specs as soon as Mardesich has them ready. Right now, it’s looking like it’ll be a 10-or-12 pack with doubles ranging from 10′-to-25′ long, with a 16′ tall deck-to-bank setup as the roll-in. Rider slots will be limited, and I’ll be posting the registration information as soon as it’s ready.
[2/15] Nyquist emailed me about this on Friday, and I completely forgot to post it up. Oops. Anyway, I’ll be posting more details as they come in between now and May.
I’m helping put together a jumping comp here in San Jose, on May 1 & 2, 2009. We are joining forces with the local Police Activities League to try and start some kind of program with BMX. As of right now I’m not sure if it’s gonna be dirt or ramps… it all depends on what the City of San Jose allows with permits and whatnot. Unfortunately, it’s not going to be a huge purse, but it’s guaranteed to be a good time, and hopefully it’ll grow in the years to come.
